On June 1st 2009, the EU Long Range Identification and Tracking Data Centre (EU LRIT DC) went live.
Thanks to the successful cooperation between the European Maritime Safety Agency and its main contractor, Collecte Localisation Satellites, the participating 32 Contracting Governments meet the international deadline set by the IMO for providing LRIT information as of July 1st 2009.
Over 10,000 vessels will be tracked by the EU LRIT DC developed by CLS, which is an estimated 20 to 25% of the world fleet subject to LRIT.
